My thoughts on Mendeley.

My thoughts on Mendeley.

Mendeley Web Library is the best reference management software I have used so far for various reasons:

  • It lets you save a paper (info and PDF) from the web with the browser extension (web importer)
  • It allows you to save references into specific folders (called collections)
  • You can highlight, comment and make notes on specific PDF papers - saved automatically online
  • You can add invitees and researchers to collaborate in specific folders (called groups)
  • Collaboration is allowed from sharing references, to highlights and comments in real time
  • You can cite your references in your preferred word processor with the plugin (citation plugin)
  • List of references updates automatically and in real time while you cite

I have found the online version more intuitive and practical than the desktop version.

Surely, there are other apps (Word, Zotero, etc.) that can achieve these (or part of these) but, in my opinion, Mendeley Web Library is by far the one that works better for students and professors looking to take your electronic library anywhere, work remotely or in-office and easily share your findings with others in a collaborative platform.
